The first UniGR-CBS Border Studies Seminar
The first UniGR-CBS Border Studies Seminar
The first Border Studies Seminar on the topic of “Spatial, Social and Linguistic Borders” directed by Grégory Hamez was organized by the Université de Lorraine. It took place on 11-12 June 2018 in the Premonstratensian Abbey in Pont-à-Mousson and united around 40 border scholars from the Greater Region and beyond.
On the first day, Border Studies as a joint field of work was of paramount importance and the interests in borders and border studies were considered from various disciplinary angles: from psychological, cultural, spatial, economic and legal perspectives. The Working Groups of the UniGR-CBS (Border Textures WG, Regional Planning WG, Education & Employment WG, GRETI WG) then reported back on the status of their activities. An overview of “Interdisciplinarity or Transdisciplinarity?” by Grégory Hamez rounded off the first day.
On the second day, the focus was on the project UniGR-Center for Border Studies (UniGR-CBS). Here too, progress in the individual project areas (research, mobility, teaching, society, territory) was presented along with the further objectives, plans and workflows. A summary of the first Border Studies Seminars as well as the preliminary discussion for the next four seminars (2018-2020) closed out the two-day workshop.
