UniGR-Chair in Border Studies
In 2019, six researchers will have the opportunity to spend a two-month research stay at another university from the UniGR network in order to develop a specific research project in close collaboration with the partners of their respective host universities and to strengthen research on border studies. Accommodation and travel expenses (max. 4000 EUR) are covered by the EU program Interreg V A Greater Region. The call for applications and the selection of candidates took place in 2018. The following priority research topics have been identified prior to the call for applications:
Section 1: governance, power and cooperation,
Section 2: regional development and sustainability,
Section 3: employment, training and economy,
Section 4: language, culture and identity,
Section 5: theoretical, conceptual as well as methodological issues in Border Studies.
The researchers who will benefit from this scholarship are: Ass Prof Dr habil Katja Andersen from the University of Luxembourg, who will go to the University of Saarland to work on the subject of the quality of teaching materials for education for sustainable development in primary schools in the border region of Luxembourg/Germany. Dr Ing Beate Caesar of the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern plans to further research on land-use planning cultures in cross-border regions and on planning games as an educational tool for learning in this field at the University of Luxembourg. Dr Cécile Chamayou-Kuhn of the Université de Lorraine will go to Saarland University to conduct research on migration and the study of borders in the Franco-German sphere in literature. PD Dr Dr Massimiliano Livi of Trier University will spend his stay at the Université de Lorraine where he will conduct research on local negotiation processes and dynamics regarding migration and integration in the Greater Region since the 1970s. Prof Dr Astrid Fellner (University of Saarland) and Dr phil Christian Wille (University of Luxembourg) have planned a close collaboration related to the subject of Cultural Border Studies and will carry out visits to each other’s respective universities.
Together with the collaborators from the host institution, the beneficiaries will organize a workshop at their host university, addressing key challenges related to cross-border issues. This workshop will be open to local partners. A seminar bringing together all the researchers who have received a mobility grant is organized at the end of the UniGR-CBS project, in order to share their experience and their views on the Greater Region and the field of Border Studies.
