Guest lecture in the Border Textures Workshop

Date de début

On 6 December 2018, Prof. Dr. Johan Schimanski from the University of Oslo was guest lecturer in the “Border Textures Workshop”. He works in the intersection between cultural sciences and border studies and is an expert in the field of “Border Aesthetics”. In his guest lecture, the comparatist reconstructed the central lines of development in border studies from a cultural science perspective and particularly dealt with theories which spawned trendsetting approaches, such as “Border Theory”, “Border Poetics” or “Border Aesthetics”. On the basis of an advanced concept of border, Schimanski concluded by associating the concepts of “borderscapes” and “bordertextures” and carved out the potentials of the still very young border texture concept.

The lecture series “Border Textures Workshop” was initiated in 2016 by the Border Textures WG at the UniGR-Center for Border Studies. Since then, public lectures have been held alternately at Saarland University and the University of Luxembourg, providing a forum for current developments in cultural science-oriented Border Studies.
