Guest Lecture – The Brexit and its limits: borderline realities, borderline fictions
Guest Lecture – The Brexit and its limits: borderline realities, borderline fictions
Borders are a central topic in Brexit. Concepts of rebordering and debordering were an important part of the referendum campaign in 2016 and since then have played a decisive role in negotiations with the EU. The conflict related to the border within Ireland shows how historically embedded this issue is.
The lecture discusses border realities and border fictions of Brexit. It introduces the predominant political discourses on borders and shows how borders are negotiated in contemporary art and culture. Art and culture provide a space for public debates on the dynamics of rebordering and debordering in the UK and sometimes open up new perspectives on border issues in uncertain times of Brexit.
